On our Instagram we have been allowing people to share their questions with the Epilepsy Positivity community, to gain answers from people with lived experience.

Building upon this, this page aims to create a more organised space for people affected by epilepsy to discuss their experiences and ask each other questions. We asked Instagram users in the Epilepsy Positivity community the broad topics they would like to be featured and these were the top six: seizures, treatments, mental health, social life, school/education and memory.

Note: the answers posted by users are most likely from experience and guidance should still be sought from professionals when necessary.

Experiences on Keppra (Levetiracetam)

I started following Epilepsy Positivity a couple of months ago and they have been such a MASSIVE help to me so far.

I am soon to start coming off my current medication and will soon be going on Keppra (Levetiracetam). I just wondered if anyone else in this community had been on this medication and if they could share their experiences with it. Feeling a bit nervous!

Thank you,

Hello Freya!

I have been on Keppra since 2016 and it has been working well for me. Had a cluster of seizures last year but increased my dose and now improved again. I still have the occasional seizure but Keppra has helped to control/reduce the frequency of my seizures. I am aware that some people struggle with their mood whilst they are on Keppra and some experience agitation/rage (this has been given the name 'Kepprage', may be worth looking up!).

Hope this helps and hope it goes well for you.
