'Epilepsy and My Family'

Mazelle Rozanski:

"My name is Mazelle Rozanski. I am 24 and I started having seizures at 6 then at aged 8 I started to have Grand Mal seizures too. It was really hard for me and and my family.

On my 9th birthday I remember everything was fine in the morning, I was playing with my brother and out friends and then I remember walking into the bathroom to get dressed. I remember like going down to the floor and my dad kicked the down the door down. I had the seizure for 25 minutes and I was rushed to hospital. They could not get it to stop he told my parents he had to put me in a coma they rushed me to children’s Hospital Boston Massachusetts. I was in the ICU for three days they didn’t think I was gonna make it. I woke up and I remember when I woke up I was scared but I didn’t cry. The nurse called my mom and dad and they cried because they thought I was not going to make it

When I was 18 I got pregnant and I had two seizures (this is how I found out I was pregnant). I now have a 4 and a 5 year old. Since my seizures started I have been taking all of these medications that haven't helped. When I was 22 they wanted to give me a VNS but that didn’t work for me - it made me have more and I started having anxiety because of trying to juggle being a Mom whilst having seizures.

I found a really good Doctor at Brigham and Women's Hospital and he put me on medication and my dad told me to start taking CBD oils and taken that and meds now I am 2 years seizures free and I want to one day go around and help other parents with epilepsy!

One thing that I will always remember though was when I had a seizure when I was with my friend and the EMT came with a police officer. My friend said she has seizures but they thought I was on drugs. I went to the hospital and I woke up handcuffed to the bed with two officers in my room. My mom was so mad they took a blood test it came back I was clean but my point is when someone says there friend or whoever has seizures listen to them..."
